Registered Anatolian Shepherd Livestock Guardian Dogs
Anatolian Shepherds:
Loyal.
Brave.
Fierce.
Fast.
Independent.
Intelligent.
Powerful.
With roots dating back to the bronze age, Anatolian Shepherds have a rich history as livestock guardian dogs. Known for their loyalty, these dogs create deep bonds with their families and their livestock, watching over their loved ones with instinctual protective devotion.
Anatolian Shepherds are incredibly fierce and brave. They don’t back down from even the largest of threats, making them excellent protectors of livestock. These dogs are strong, and fast - we’ve clocked them at over 50 mph, going uphill! But be forewarned, Anatolians possess a strong independent streak, often preferring to think for themselves rather than follow commands blindly. This independence is paired with a sharp intelligence, allowing them to assess situations and make decisions that keep their livestock safe.
Whether they’re on high alert, patrolling the fields, or relaxing on a sunny, lazy afternoon, Anatolian Shepherds are sure to capture your heart.

About Our Dogs
AKC Registered
Our Bear Mountain Farm Anatolians are AKC registered, from strong, healthy working lines. Puppies will be sold with the rights to be registered as well. We searched far and wide to find registered Anatolians that met our criteria for health, appearance, and temperament. “Bear Mountain Dolly Barkin” came to us from Columbus, NE, while “Bear Mountain Kenny Woofers” is a “rough coat” Anatolian who came to us from Black, AL. We think our dam and sire are some of the most beautiful Anatolians you will ever see!
PennHip Certified
Both of our dogs have had their hips tested and certified as “mild risk” of osteoarthritis through the PennHip diagnostic program.
Field Tested
Our dogs have been on the job since puppyhood, interacting with and protecting our cattle, pigs, poultry, and cats. They keep our 130 acres free from predators, including coyotes, bobcats, bears, and even eagles. Puppies will be exposed to and interact with all our animals, as appropriate.
Diet
At Bear Mountain Farm, all our animals, dogs included, are fed the best possible biologically appropriate diet to ensure health. Our Anatolians are fed from our farm as available, including eggs, clabbered milk, pig, chicken, beef, and produce. They also eat Blue Ridge Beef mix, and are supplemented with no more than 50% Bixbi or Zignature grain-free kibble to round out their meals. We use supplements from Springtime as we feel appropriate.
Vaccinations
We believe in a very limited and delayed vaccination schedule. We choose to use only a rabies vaccine for our cats and dogs, and will work with puppy buyers to implement their preferred vaccination program.
Natural Rearing
Natural rearing encompasses more than diet and vaccinations. Every choice about housing, training, whelping, and medical care is carefully researched to prioritize a holistic approach. We focus on positive reinforcement in training, and whelping occurs in safe, low-stress environments. By starting with an appropriate diet, we are able to avoid the use of antibiotics, steroids, and the excess of pills given to most dogs these days.
